High School Scholarships Given
Lynn Cook – High School Scholarships Chair
This year Roseville-South Placer AAUW awarded seventeen scholarships of $1,000 each to high school seniors from Roseville, Lincoln, Rocklin and Granite Bay. Thanks to the generous support of donors, we were able to increase the number of awards this year from three to seventeen.

Joyce Kirk and the committee of five members reached out to ten schools and received more than 120 applications from seven of the schools. Each application was reviewed on financial need, grades, in-school and community activities, recommendations and a personal essay. The process was especially challenging this year since the federal financial aid forms, which score financial need, were not available.

Each member individually reviewed the applications from a specific school and chose her top contenders. Then the members met as a group to discuss and eventually agree upon the students for awards.
Following the awards, members attended award assemblies at the schools and were able to meet the awardees. It was extremely gratifying to meet these extraordinary young women who were thrilled to have received the scholarships.

Here are some quotes from the recipients:
“It’s an absolute honor to receive this scholarship. I promise too to be a voice for women throughout my time at college.” Katelyn

“Thank you so much for awarding me this scholarship. Your belief in my potential to pursue Aerospace Engineering means the world to me!” Kassidy

“I’m sincerely grateful for this scholarship. Your belief in the power of education to transform lives is truly inspiring. I am one step closer to achieving my academic goals and making a positive impact in my community!” Jasreet

“Your kindness is making a real difference in my life, and I am committed to give back to others just as you have done for me. Thank you for believing in me and my potential.” Janel
